My research for my next laptop has begun! Because I don’t game very often, and my laptop use is usually limited to basic Photoshop and Dreamweaver, I was thinking maybe a high powered netbook would be nice to have. The great portability and long battery life are very appealing to a guy that often works out of coffee shops. My initial worry was there wouldn’t be a netbook powerful enough for me. Then I found this bad boy.
The Asus N10J-A2 is officially considered a laptop by Asus, but has the same basic specs of a netbook. The size coupled with the Intel Atom processor clearly put it in the netbook realm. However, there is some power in this little machine that I hope will be enough to suit my needs. With 2gb of RAM and a dedicated graphics card (256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS), I should have enough power to run Photoshop and Dreamweaver. It also boasts an HDMI output and a 320GB hard drive. My MacBook Pro only has a DVI output and a 160GB hard drive. Finally, it has a built-in card reader, which my Mac also lacks.
The one big downside to this laptop is the price. At $799 retail, it is far pricier than other netbooks.
So far, this laptop is on the top of my list, but I am looking for other suggestions. I do value small, but I am going to take a look at some of the more powerful PC laptops available and post about those as well.
